Thorpe Park Visits:

27th March, 2004

We arrived shortly after opening and there were no queues to get in, which was pleasantly surprising since this the park only opened for the season the previous Saturday. In fact, the park wasn't too busy and the only long queue was for Colossus.

We headed straight for Nemesis Inferno, and there was only 10 mins queue so we got virtually straight on. Nice ride which seems really smooth and looks very stylish. In the boarding area they have these huge boom generators hanging from the ceiling that make the heart pounding noises, very atmospheric.

After resisting the temptation to go straight back on Nemesis, we next went to see what the queue for Colossus was like, only to be told it wasn't working and may not be working by the end of the day. We headed off, disappointed, but fortunately it was working later on so we did get our chance to go on, but more about that later. So instead we went to Samurai. There wasn't too much of a queue for this, probably half an hour. We were interested to see exactly where they'd put it and to compare to the experience when it was at Chessington. It didn't disappoint - spinning to just about every angle.

Next was X:\No Way Out, the backwards rollercoaster in the dark. We didn't have to wait too long for that one.
Next we went on Vortex, a favourite of ours which never disappoints. There was a reasonably long queue for that, but it is close to the park entrance so will always get busy first.
Then we went across to Quantum. This is a flying carpet type ride and goes surprisingly fast - good fun. It had virtually no queue so we got on after one or two cycles.
Next up was the Flying fish - I remember this from going to Thorpe Park as a child, many years ago now, but it's still as much fun.
Then it was the spinning teacups, before having something to eat.
The next ride was Nemesis Inferno again, bit more of a queue this time, then we went on Zodiac (the ride that spins round in a circle first then goes vertical) and we didn't have to wait too long for this, just a couple of cycles.
Then we went on Vortex again, then Colossus was working so we headed across to that. Had to wait a while of course, because it hadn't been working everyone else wanted to go on it. Well worth the wsit though, excellent ride.
Next up was Quantum again, then we may have gone on Vortex again then headed home.

Summary:
Good points: Good rides, nicely themed eating places
Bad points: Colossos broke down in the morning, fortunately it was working in the afternoon though.
